Swimmer who died in Greystones named locally

A swimmer in her 50s who drowned when she and two friends got into difficulty on the weekend in Greystones has been named locally.

Schoolteacher Lynne Freeman and her two friends were pulled from the water on Saturday afternoon. Tragically, Ms Freeman was pronounced dead a short time later.

Emergency services were alerted to an incident on North Beach in Greystones shortly after 12:30pm.

A second woman was brought to St. Vincent’s Hospital and was later discharged, while the third woman was treated at the scene.

It’s understood Ms Freeman, who is a mother of two, was a member of staff at Ravenswell Primary School in Bray.

Originally from the UK, Lynne was a regular swimmer.
