Tributes are pouring in following the passing of one of the Arklow Cancer Support Groups founder members Frances Sweeney.
Friend and Arklow Cancer Support Group member Mary O’Brien said “When the idea of a Cancer Support Group came up we sat at the table in her house and we never looked back, today I am numb as are all the members of the Support Group, Frances was to the fore of everything we did and was loved and respected by everyone who came through our doors both on King’s Hill and St.Mary’s Road.
Mary wrote the following tribute on the Arklow Cancer Support Facebook page
“It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that I announce the untimely death of Frances Sweeney our dearest friend, Board Member and Treasurer of Arklow Cancer Support. Frances was a founder member who worked tirelessly and passionately from the heart, to ensure that our service reached what it is today. Not only was Frances a board member and volunteer, she was a friend. A friend to anyone who met her. Frances had a way to calm a situation, softly spoken and always had words of wisdom. Her witty humour ensured whatever the meet up, there were guaranteed laughs and smiles. You will be truly missed by all who met you and fondly remembered forever more in our group.”
