Wicklow winner of RTÉ Eye on Nature 2022

Congratulations to Jimmy McDonnell from Newcastle, Co. Wicklow has won the RTE Eye on Nature Photography competition 2022.

The announcement was made this afternoon National Botanic Gardens.

Jimmy’s picture of a squirrel taken here in Wicklow was one of of 12 shortlisted for today’s final, which received over 3,000 entries.

The judging panel were Dr Matthew Jebb (Director, National Botanic Gardens), Anne Sommerfield (award-winning filmmaker) and Mike Brown (award-winning wildlife photographer.)

The judges narrowed 100 photos down to the final 12 images before selecting the overall winning image. All these photographs represent the rich natural heritage that Ireland has to offer, showcasing our island’s biodiversity.

Jimmy who is a member of Greystones Camera Club was presented with the RTÉ Eye on Nature trophy and a prize of €1,000.
