Annacurra notes week May 2nd

Annacurra Bowls Club.

Annacurra Bowls Club resumed play In the late autumn of 2021 after being closed for 19 months due to the coronavirus epidemic.

For those attending it was great to be back to meet up again with their colleagues after such a long lock down.

It was the first season since our origination that there was no inter club matches, as everyone was still observing the current epidemic regulations.

However it was a delight to have two internal competitions run at the end of the season to get everyone back into competition mode.

This consisted of a mixed singles competition, and a mixed doubles competition.

Thanks to John Flood for organising both of these competitions.

Thanks also to John and John Byrne who made home crafted prizes for them.

Congratulations to Liam Lyons on winning the singles competition, and  to Jack and Ann Lynch who won the doubles competition.

Sunday 24th April our  Bowls Club closed for the usual summer recess.

Hope to see everyone back bowling again when we reopen in the autumn.

We had another great win for our under 13’s last Monday night at home against St Nicholas’. Final score 4-8 v 1-10. That’s 3 wins from 3 for this team. A great start to the season for them.

Our junior footballers got back to winning ways on Thursday with a 1-9 to 0-7 victory over Ballymanus. They are on a bye week this week.

Well done to everyone involved from Annacurra who won a South-East title with Colaiste Bhride Carnew during the week. Annacurra had 6 representatives on the team.

Our under 15’s had a busy day Saturday in Ballinakill at the Feile qualifier. Unfortunately, they will not be going to the next round.

The intermediates had a great win Sunday morning away to Baltinglass. It has been some time since we had a victory on that pitch and a great team performance seen us over the line.

Best wishes to Gearoid Murphy who is undergoing surgery on an injury. We hope to see you back soon.
