Carnew notes week May 2nd


Laura Young from Crumlin hospital attended Carnew Community Care recently and collected knitted and crochet blankets, cardigans, hats, bootees and mittens for the premature babies, she was overwhelmed with all the lovely items which she received.

A sincere thank you to everyone who is doing the knitting and crochet of these items it is very much appreciated. To anyone who is donating wool or money to buy the wool a sincere thank you, it is very much appreciated.

If you have wool or any baby buttons that you would like to donate it will be greatly appreciated and used.

Kilrush Drama Group

Kilrush Drama Group’s production of Class by Iseult Golden and David Horan and directed by Pat Whelan will be performed on Wednesday May 11th in the Dean Crowe Theatre in Athlone.  Don’t miss out on the last opportunities  to see this award winning production locally when the group will perform in St. Bridget’s Hall Carnew on the Sunday and Monday night next the 8th and 9th of May at 8pm.


The lucky winners of our Split the Pot draw for Scoil Aodan Naofa Carnew who won €200 was Ciarán + Katie Doyle. Congratulations.The winner of our sellers draw who won  €10  was Calam Moynihan   and the lucky dip winner was Gwilym Davis. Congratulations to all. Winner of “Split the Pot”  Friday 29th April is Clare Deegan, Loughleitrim, Carnew  –  winning €140.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Gavin Breen, Shillelagh his family and relatives on the death of his mother Mary Breen, Kilpedder who died recently.


Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of Betty Browne, nee Byrne Coollattin Road, Carnew who died during the week and was buried on Tuesday in Tomacork cemetery.


Carnew GAA lotto was not won numbers were 1,24,25,28, lucky dips were Mary O’Donnell and Seamus Wafer, the next draw is 9th May and the jackpot is €10,600.

Tickets can be bought on line or in any of the local shops.


Social dance in Askamore hall Friday May 6th 2022. Doors open @9pm. Dancing starts @ 9.30pm. Music by Stuart Moyles. Admission e10.

Askamore Sunday June 5th at 1pm, Kilrush Sunday July 31st at 1pm.


Bishop Ger Nash will visit Kilrush/Askamore  parish on May 7th& 8th, to allow the Bishop to meet everyone mass times will be as follows, Kilrush Saturday May 7th 6pm, Sunday 10am and Askamore 11.30am.


Communions will take place in Coolfancy on Sunday 8th May 10am, Carnew Sunday 15th May 11am, Shillelagh Saturday 21st May 11am.

Confirmation will take place in Coolfancy Friday 27th May 11am, Carnew Thursday 9th June 11am, and Wednesday 29th June 11am.
