Thefts of bikes are always a concern for bike owners.

Gardaí advise investing in good strong locks.

Lock bikes in busy,  well lit areas.

At home,  leave bikes inside in a secured buikling like a garage or shed.

Or bring it into the house.

Do not have bikes visible through windows.

If in a shed,  make sure you have a good lock on it at all times.

Here are some more tips:

  • Spend 10% to 20% of the value of your bike on two locks.
  • Lock your bike tightly to an immovable object.
  • Keep the lock off the ground.
  • Take a photo of your bike,  note the serial number.
  • Email the photo back to yourself so you have a record of it forever.
  • Lock your bike indoors or in well-lit areas if possible.
