Odds slashed for Bray’s Katie Taylor to be named RTÉ Sportsperson of the Year

Bray boxer Katie Taylor retained her undisputed lightweight title on Sunday after she edged out Amanda Serrano on points with a split-decision victory.

It was an incredible battle from the much-loved Irish boxer who got the verdict on two cards, by 97-93 and 96-93 margins, with one judge scoring it 96-94 to Serrano.

It was a fantastic battle and because of Katie’s victory, BoyleSports now make her 2/5 from 3/1 to win the RTÉ Sportsperson of the Year award for the third time following huge support.

Rachael Blackmore became the first woman to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March with her odds sinking into a red-hot 1/2.

However, the Tipperary jockey has competition now and has been eased out to 7/4 following Katie Taylor’s victory at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano didn’t disappoint with the Bray boxer winning on points in a split decision victory.

“As soon as she was announced the winner punters started to get behind her to win another RTÉ Sportsperson of the Year gong, so we had to cut her into 2/5 from 3/1.

“Rachael Blackmore has been eased out to 7/4 from 1/2 as the pair top the betting for the second year in a row.”
