Irish Water has said customers in Wicklow may experience interruption while they carry out new connection works this month.

The state’s water utility company warned customers in Newcastle, Newtownmountkennedy and surrounding areas in Co Wicklow may lose supply.

The works are scheduled to take place between from 11:55pm on 9 June until 4am on 10 June.

Irish Water said these works are part of its National Leakage Reduction Programme, which aims to replace existing water pipes below ground.

In 2018 the rate of leakage nationally was 46%, by the end of 2020 it was 40%. By the end of 2021 Irish Water further reduced leakage to 38%.

They said they are on track to achieve a national leakage rate of 25% by the end of 2030.

For customers who are affected by the planned works, Irish Water advised that you allow 2-3 hours after the estimated restoration time for your supply to fully return.
