Nigel makes plans for Wicklow Cancer Support

Redcross man Nigel Jenkinson has set himself a target of cycling 160k in aid of Wicklow Cancer Support, Nigel will be well known to photographers in Wicklow and indeed the whole country as he works in Conn’s Cameras in Dublin City centre.

Here is what Nigel has to say about his challenge.

“Hi my name is Nigel Jenkinson living in Redcross Co. Wicklow, and I am a MAMIL (Middle Aged Man in Lycra).

I got back into cycling when a friend of mine John was training for a Quest event, which is a mixture of running, cycling and kayaking , I decided to get a road bike and join him on a Sunday morning out cycling and really enjoyed getting out into the Wicklow countryside and listening to the birds singing and clearing my head ! I was hooked again, last year I turned 50 and I set myself a target of cycling 100km on a cycle and I did it the day before my birthday while on holidays in Co. Clare.

Last autumn I caught up with my friend Sean, and told him that I had reached my goal of a 100km cycle. He congratulated me but said that I should set a greater target and challenged me to complete a 160km cycle. I am now taking on the challenge I found an event run by Skoda called the Ring of Clare 2022, which is a 160km cycle in Clare on July 16th 2022. Contrary to what my wife Claire claims, it is not a downhill cycle!!!!

After signing up for this event I decided that I should put all this training to good use and try to raise money for a most deserving charity in Wicklow. I contacted Wicklow Cancer Support and got speaking to Eileen. Now there was no turning back. They quietly and voluntarily go about their work in the local community, providing emotional and practical support to those whose lives have been affected by cancer, whether it be the patients themselves or their family and friends. Unfortunately, cancer affects practically everyone either directly or indirectly and funding is needed to support voluntary agencies such as Wicklow Cancer Support and enable them to do their work.

With that in mind, here is the “I donate” link for making a donation and I thank you in advance. I’d like to thank my sponsors who have already kick started the fund. Conns Cameras, Canon Ireland, Sony Ireland Donnybrook Bikes, T5 Strategies. Thanks”
