“Sister Act” Success for Avonmore Musical Society

The announcement of the AIMS (Association of Irish Musical Societies)  Awards for 2022 took place in the INEC, Gleneagles Hotel, Killarney, Co. Kerry recently and Avonmore Musical Society finished runners-up in three different categories in the Gilbert Section for their production of “Sister Act, which was a huge success for the society this year.
 
 
Best Choreographer – Martina Lynch
Best Actress in a Supporting Role – Joanne Logue as “Sister Mary Theresa”
Mary Kelly Unsung Hero Award – Padraig Reid
 
Whilst not winning the top awards Tomas Byrne Chairman of Avonmore Musical Society said “it was indeed a great achievement to get to stage this year’s show and the icing on the cake was being nominated for all the hard work the cast and crew put into bringing the show from page to stage”. He also thanked everyone for their help and support in what has been a difficult time for everyone including Avonmore Musical Society”

Robert Donnelly National President of AIMS and a member of Avonmore Musical Society together with Vice President Feargal Cavanagh presented the Awards on the night.
 
Over 40 people from the society attended the gala event in Killarney and the society which was attended by just under 800 people. The entire event was streamed online and can be also viewed on the 2022 Aims Awards You Tube Channel.
 
Congratulations to Stephen Acton, who directed Avonmore Musical Societies production of “Sister Act” and who also directed Gorey Musical Societies production of “The Sound of Music” and received the Tommy Ebbs Trophy for  Best Director in the Sullivan Section. Gorey also picked up the Ennis Musical Society trophy for Best House Management and the Sean Timmons Trophy for Best Ensemble  for the Von Trapp Children and their rendition of “So Long Farewell”.
 
Avonmore Musical Society provided the opening sequence on stage at the Award Weekend in Killarney, and were honoured, thrilled and excited at being invited by AIMS to celebrate the music of Stephen Sondheim. The group had been working hard over a number of weeks with Director Stephen Acton, Musical Director Naoimh Penston and Choreographer Martina Lynch.
