A song has been released in memory of a Wicklow woman.
Sarah Carty from Annacurra was only 28 when she died from a rare and aggressive form of cancer in January of 2020.
Many here in County Wicklow will remember Sarah’s uplifting blog “Survival with Style“, where she updated followers on her condition while reaching out to other cancer patients and helping during their moment of need.
Friend Emma Martin has now wrote a song in memory of her, while at the same time raising funds for the “First Descents” program.
The charity provides life changing outdoor adventures for young adults (age 18-39) impacted by cancer and other serious health conditions.
Sarah was the first Irish participant to participate in the program.
Earlier this month the song ‘Sarah’s Song – i gconaí ann’ was launched at the Ferryman in Dublin.
Sarah’s song (I gcónaí ann) is available to download and listen to (for free) on Spotify, Youtube and all major music streaming sites and donations can be made at www.gofund.me.ie ‘Sarah’s Song’
Emma posted the following on her Social Media page at the release of the song
I don’t normally ask people to share things but I am calling on absolutely everyone to please share this song please to light up social media with Sarah’s memory.
Sarah Carty was the most incredible lady who adored her family and friends, camogie, writing, nights out and all things fun. Tragically, she lost her battle to ovarian cancer at the tender age of 28 in January 2020.
Before she passed she attended an adventure retreat which completely inspired her and gave her back her sparkle after many bouts of chemo (although she always put on such a brave and happy face). The charity: First Descents provides life-changing outdoor adventures for young adults (ages 18 – 39) impacted by cancer and other serious health conditions.
We really want to spread the word so that even one more person gets to avail of this life changing adventure and raise much needed funds too.
Everything bar flights is free for participants.
They provide the most amazing experience with voluntary doctors, chefs, course instructors and general legends at hand to make the time there magical.
The song:This was written before Sarah died and she was supposed to sing on the track, but unfortunately never got the chance to do so. It is a song about friendship and is based on the theme that even if a person cannot be physically with you they are still by your side, “i gcónaí ann” or “always there”.
It was written in the Irish language as Sarah had a great love for GaeilgePlease, please, please share this song everywhere now with the hashtag #sarahssong.
