Alaska Bakes to close its doors on Wednesday

One of the most popular bakeries on the East coast is to close its doors on Wednesday.

Leon Mowlds of Alaska Bakes in Rathnew made the announcement last week saying

“After almost 3 years of delivering our delicious bakes fresh from our oven to you, we have made the very difficult decision to close the doors on our family owned bakery.

We want to thank all of our valued customers who have been with us along the way, many of whom have become our friends. This decision was not taken lightly. We are very proud of how our small business has grown. We’ve realised though we simply can’t do everything, and we need to prioritise our family.

As some of you know, the business is for sale and we hope our beloved bakery will be able to continue under new management in the future. For now, our final day will be Wednesday, August 31st.

We hope to see many of you over our last days. We’ll always be grateful for the warm welcome and support we received from the local community here and from afar. We loved putting smiles on your faces…especially with Wicklow’s tastiest cinnamon rolls!”

This week the bakery has had a rush of orders for their famous cinnamon rolls before the doors close, and customers have left glowing comments on the stores social media pages, wishing Leon and his family all the best in the future.

Though it may not be the end of Alaska Bakes as the business is for sale on Done Deal for €24,000.
