Arklow RNLI comes to the aid of sailing vessel

Arklow RNLI launched on Tuesday at approximately 9.15pm to a request to assist a sailing vessel that was in difficulty.

The volunteer crew made their way to the lifeboat station and within minutes of the request were aboard RNLB Ger Tigchlearr and en route to the reported location.

In a Force 5 southerly breeze with moderate seas, the all-weather Trent Class lifeboat made its way to the reported position 1.5 miles North of Arklow.

Once on scene the casualty vessel with three persons aboard was located and it was confirmed that the vessel had suffered mechanical failure.

A tow line was established and the casualty vessel was towed back to Arklow and all hands came ashore In the inner harbour.

Arklow RNLI’s crew on this callout were  Coxswain Ned Dillon, Brendan Dillon, Craig O’Reilly, Geoff Kearnes, Eddie McElheron and Station Mechanic James Russell.

Following the callout, Mark Corcoran, volunteer Lifebatt Press Officer at Arklow RNLI said: “Thanks once again to our volunteer crew, who at a moments notice go to sea to assist others, please remember to respect the water.”
