Gardai investigate vehicle fires in Ashford

Gardai are carrying out an investigation after two cars were burnt out at in Ashford during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Wicklow Fire Services were called to the vehicle fire at around 12.30am after containing the blaze the Wicklow crew were called to a house fire in Rathnew.

As Rathdrum Fire Services were making their way to assist the Wicklow crew at Drumkay in Rathnew they were diverted to a second vehicle fire also at Woodview in Ashford a premises close to where the car was parked suffered significant damage.

Gardai said the car fires appear to have been started deliberately and are appealing to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area on Saturday night into Sunday morning, or whom may have CCTV or dashcam footage to contact Wicklow Garda Station on 0404 67107.

It has been a busy number of days for the Fire Services, Wicklow Fire Services were called to a vehicle fire at Friars Hill in Wicklow Town on Thursday, the crew were able to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to the house which it was parked beside.

On Friday Greystones Fire Services were called to a wildfire at Season Park in Newtown, the crew were able to contain the fire and stop it spreading into nearby woodland.
