Bringing colour to Roundwood

You may have noticed some busy bees working beside the community centre in Roundwood recently. The
volunteers were cleaning and painting the village’s mural.

The original mural was created in the Summer of 2019 as the Roundwood and District Community
Council felt the village needed a visual art piece.

The group decided to create a mural capturing the natural and historical importance of the village and surrounding countryside.

KWETB Tutor and local artist Aoife Patterson designed the painting in response to the group’s ideas. The use of colour was of particular importance to the group while Aoife drew on her experience of delivering mural art projects nationally.

This project was a collaboration between Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board (KWETB), Roundwood and District Community Council, and Roundwood Tidy Towns.

In the Summer of 2022, the mural was in need of some maintenance and a refresh and the group volunteered their time and the results look amazing.

Feedback from the local community has been very positive and the work of the volunteers is really appreciated. Well done to all involved.
