Wicklow to host Rose of Tralee contestants

Wicklow County Council will be hosting 17 of the Rose of Tralee contestants, including the Wicklow Rose, Rosin Long, on Tuesday and Wednesday next, August 16th and 17th.

International Roses representing Dubai, London, Queensland, Texas, Yorkshire, Arizona and New York and Irish roses from Kildare, Louth, Wexford, Dublin, Kerry, Cork, Derry, Donegal and Westmeath will be visiting the Garden County.

Cllr Tommy Annesley, Cathaoirleach, Wicklow County Council, said he was delighted to wish all of the visiting Roses best of luck in the competition particularly Rosin Long, the Wicklow Rose and a native of Arklow. He also complimented the Arklow Bay Hotel for their initiative in sponsoring the event.

“This is a marvellous cultural experience, unique to Ireland but known all over the world. I hope that the participants have an enjoyable and memorable visit to Wicklow, that you will tell your friends and family about all that Wicklow has to offer and that you will come back to us in the future,” the Cathaoirleach stated.

Deputy Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, Michael Nicholson, added: “This is a fantastic promotional opportunity for Wicklow. We are fortunate enough to have some of Irelands top visitor attractions in the County. This will be a good opportunity to showcase the county both nationally and internationally. Coverage will be viewed all over the world and will be of invaluable help in marketing County Wicklow into the future.”

The Roses will enjoy a full agenda starting at Powerscourt Estate and including a visit to Glendalough, Beyond the Trees at Avondale Forest Park, coffee at Ballyknocken House Cookery School with Award Winning Cookery host Catherine Fulvio, a photo stop at Brittas Bay and a visit to Russborough House are among the highlights of the visit.
