GAA News

Our adult hurlers march on to the Junior A Championship final after a convincing semi final win against Kiltegan in Ballinakill last Wednesday night. This was a very confidence building win and with a lot of hard work we can look forward to hopefully a successful final appearance against a very strong and experienced St.Pats team.

Our Junior D adult football team played the next round of their championship against Eire Og last Friday night. We were well behind in the second half when the game was abandoned by the referee .

The club would like to thank everyone involved in the organising planning and implementation of the jointly run field day last Saturday in the worst of the weather this year. This was a real community effort and great praise must go to the committees involved from both clubs to ensure a successful event.

Finally a big shout out to all who supported, sponsored and helped out to make this a fun filled day for all.

Congratulations to Aughrim clubman Andy Holt who is an integral part of the Ireland Women’s soccer back room management team. Andy is the squad’s video analyst and was singled out by manager Vera Pauw for his half time analysis in the last match against Finland which highlighted changes that needed to be made and swung the game in Ireland’s favour. Ireland manager Pauw was fulsome in her praise for Andy’s contribution to that win and also in particular for his astute analysis of the Swedish team’s performance in that earlier round which ensured Ireland claimed a draw, its best result of the current century. We wish Andy and the Irish Women’s soccer team continued success as they battle for a place in the World Cup 2023.

Our Junior A adult footballers had a great win over Rathnew last Sunday in Pearse park on a score line of Aughrim 1-12 Rathnew 0-8.This was a great result and great performance full of grit, determination and well taken scores. We play Laragh in the county semi final in two weeks time. Well done to all.

Lotto

The numbers drawn in Aughrim Sports Club lotto on Monday August 29th were: 2, 12, 23 and 24. The jackpot was not won.  There were three match three winners: Magali O’Driscoll, Michael Duffy and Pat Canavan.  The jackpot for September 5th is €10,700.  People who support the weekly lotto are lending support to the local sports clubs who are very much part of the community.
