Calls for Government Action to Make Wicklow Global Hub of International Film, TV Drama, and Animation Production

Wicklow Sinn Féin TD John Brady met with this week with Elaine Geraghty the Managing Director of Ardmore Studios in Bray & Troy Studios. Who are the key investor in the new planned €300 million Greystones Media Campus. Their parent company Hackman Capital Partners are the world’s leading real estate and studio services organisation. They operate the largest independent studio portfolio in the world, which includes 19 studio properties, over 35 media campuses, and over 550 sound stages.

Brady said:

“It was absolutely fantastic to meet with Elaine Geraghty, the Managing Director of Ardmore Studios in Bray & Troy Studios. The commitment that Elaine and her colleagues have made to County Wicklow is evident in the scale of their investment in the County. From Ardmore in Bray, and the new €300 million Media Campus in Greystones, they are putting in place the infrastructure that has the potential to position our county at the centre of the film making industry.

Elaine was able to give me a full update on the productions currently being shoot in Ardmore and to provide an update on the plans for new stages in Ardmore and the development of the Greystones Media Campus.

The film industry provides huge employment in Wicklow and needs to be supported. To date the government for reasons best known to themselves appear to have missed the boat when it comes to recognising the potential of the industry.

In Ireland, and in particular here in Wicklow, we are blessed with the quality of our studios, the calibre of the production staff and creative talent, along with some of the best scenic locations that the industry could hope for.

But if the industry is to reach its full potential the government needs to act to remove the obstacles that are currently causing the industry to lose out to overseas competitors, where overseas governments, recognising the potential of the film industry in social and economic terms are streets ahead of the coalition here in Ireland.

Ireland, with Wicklow at the centre, has the potential to be a global bub for the production of Film, TV Drama, and Animation. But we need to see a government with the vision and leadership to work with the industry to achieve its full potential.”
