Motorists in Arklow should note that there is no left turn to the Upper Main Street from St.Mary’s Road.
Local Councillor Peir Leonard said this evening she had received an unprecedented amount of complaints today about the negative impact of numerous construction projects being carried out simultaneously throughout the town.
Apart from the works on the Main Street, works are being carried out on the Vale Road, the Dublin Road and Templerainey.
Councillor Leonard said:
“Unfortunately the Council, local traders or the public were notified about the temporary access issue from St.Marys Rd turning left up onto Upper Main Street. Lack of important information like this is not good enough and I have relayed my concerns to both the District Manager and the project management team of the Parade Ground project as well as both the Cathaoirleach of Arklow MD and WCC .
I would like to apologise to the local community and businesses for the unnecessary stress of today’s traffic management shortfalls.
In relation to the contractors staff using essential customer parking bays for our struggling Main St businesses I can confirm that they have now been diverted to an alternative location.
Regarding the construction works at Circle K garage at the Wheelie Pump corner I have spoken to the council engineers and asked for more signage to redirect school children to cross the road at the official Dublin Rd pedestrian crossing. It had been flagged to me that people and children had been walking around the path closure onto the road and also crossing over the Dublin Rd on a busy dangerous junction.
We have a lot going on at the moment so although its frustrating please try to be patient in this transitional time.”
