Arklow Artivists are calling out for crockery

Heritage day cup launch

A new Arklow based collective of artists called ‘4 02 Artivists’ have embarked on what is believed to be the largest cup mosaic in Ireland. With the assistance of Creative Ireland who have provided some funding for the project, Arklow Artivists are looking to pay tribute to Arklow Pottery and the many generations who worked in the factory during its more then 50 years in the town.

Arklow Artivists are putting out the call for your broken crockery to use in the making of the mosaic. The cup which was sourced from a local film prop maker and stands at over 2 metres high and 2 metres across meaning plenty of crockery is needed to complete the project. If you have crockery that you can donate, Unique Patisserie on the main street and Madeira Cafe beside Expert Electrical, Castlepark are both drop off points.

Chair of the 4 02 Artivists group, Peir Leonard, said, “I’m very excited about this fantastic and collaborative project for Arklow, which marries the wealth of artistic talent of Arklow creatives with our rich Arklow Pottery heritage.

“I would like to thank Arklow Town Team, my fellow 4 02 cultural collective group, Wicklow County Council and the Creative Ireland funding which has made this possible.”
