Mary rings bell for the last time in Brittas Bay NS

There was a tinge of sadness as popular teacher Mary Doyle retired from Brittas Bay National School on Friday last (September 30th) after 24 years. Mary worked in both Shankill and Avoca before that.

Mary has a keen interest in sport and art and has been playing football herself until recently. Indeed, she inspired many children in those areas.

Students and Staff along with her husband Ricky and son Tom formed a guard of honour as Mary walked out of the school for the last time.

Mary’s other son Liam Scales currently plays for the Irish International football team and is with the Scottish Premiership in Aberdeen on loan from Celtic. One of his first football coaches was Mary!

Brittas Bay National School will miss Mary. There was a great day of celebration with a whole school Mass and presentations from the Parents Association, Board of Management and staff.

Mary is wished many happy mornings rowing in Wicklow Harbour!
