Young Ben O’Dea was front and centre at the Aras Lorcain Community Centre in Arklow last weekend as they held their Annual Christmas Fair following ‘The Covid hiatus’.
The hall itself was full to the brim with beautiful crafts, food, gifts, toys, jewellery, candles and wax melts with a raffle on the day and a warm and cosy tea room in the next room. All proceeds from the weekend being donated to the Mother Kevin Missions and all assistance on the day provided by volunteers.
Ben is in 4th class in Scoil Chaoimhin Naofa in Glendalough. As he is on the autistic spectrum, he has a lovely assistance dog called Maggie. Hailing from Annamoe, 10 year old Ben had come up with the idea of making and selling his own Christmas decorations. Whats more, he was doing it to raise money for Barnardos and Helping the Homeless.
He started with clay and had moved through a number of different prototypes before settling on his wooden decorations. They are available in stars, Christmas stockings, Christmas trees, baubles, snowflakes and miniature snowflakes. Eager to please his customers he was also happy to offer on the spot personalisation of the decorations upon request.
Ben also had some ‘Santa Approved’ Reindeer food for sale on his stall, which had all the hallmarks of being nutritious, delicious and glittery. Perfect for reindeers on a heavy night shift!
