Bolands of Arklow currently in negotiations with Santas Booking Agent

Bolands Arklow

Topline Bolands opened their doors on Thursday evening to the Arklow and surrounding community as they hosted the first major Christmas event since the Covid lockdowns of the last few years.

The event which opened its doors at 5.30pm saw queues forming well before 5pm with many trying to beat the crowds. Advertising for the event included Free Santa, Reindeers, Live Music, Nibbles and even a wee tipple. When Wicklow News visited, we had our fill of candy canes and enjoyed a couple of tunes from local man Sean Fox.

Unfortunately not all visitors were happy with the event as Santa couldn’t see all of the children due to the long queues and unexpectedly high turn out.

People took to social media in their droves to make their feelings known:

There was no one telling you were to queue it was all over the shop people joining the queue from front door back door and middle of shop no one in charge impossible to get near any of the cakes or drinks .It was so bad up there gave up after 45 min and left with 2 very disappointed kids

Bolands have issued the following apology on their facebook account:

Dear Customers,

Unfortunately we did not foresee the volume of customers and kids that arrived tonight. We can only apologise but really appreciate all the feedback both negative and positive, which when we review will only help us to learn and improve. Tonight’s event was all about giving back to the community thankfully there was a great deal of money raised for Arklow Cancer Support tonight and both we and them, once again thank you for this. We really do hope that you will continue to support us in the future.

For the most part, people were understanding of the situation, sending thanks to the staff of Bolands for their assistance on the night and wishing them well for a good rest following such a busy event.

One of the visitors on the night said on their facebook page: ‘Well done all at Bolands!!! My daughter told me it was the best night ever….. the reindeer were definitely worth the wait!!! Thank you so much!!!

Whilst another commented: ‘It was absolute mayhem.. My daughter was disappointed not to have gotten to see Santa, but my heart went out to the younger members of your staff whom were being verbally abused by members of the public

Either way, the Bolands team sraised a large sum of money for Arklow Cancer Support on the night!

We also have it on good authority that the Bolands team are in negotiations with Santas Booking agent in the North Pole to see if he has any availability for another visit to Arklow before the big day! Watch this space….
