Carnew notes week November 28th


Carnew GAA lotto was not won numbers were 3,6,7,9, lucky dips were Sabrina Kavanagh and Stephen Murphy, the next draw is 5th December and the jackpot is €12,100, tickets only €2 from any local shop.


Carnew Community Care are holding their annual Christmas draw on 21st December , prizes are 1st – €500 voucher for home heating oil, 2nd – €200 cash, 3rd – €50 voucher for Centra, 4th – €50 voucher for Topline, 5th – Christmas hamper, 6th- €50 voucher for McGirr’s chemist, 7th – Community Cake Christmas cake. Tickets are €2 each or three for €5, tickets on sale from any of the committee or the Centre or the Pop up shop on Friday, all support greatly appreciated.


The lucky winner of our split the pot draw for Scoil Aodan Naofa Carnew who won €254 was Anne Lydon. Congratulations.

The winners of our sellers prize draw who won selection boxes were Sean McCrea, Jack Collins, Adam Collins, Sarah Farrell and Kathleen Molloy.

The Men on the Move Programme continues for the next three weeks in Carnew Sportsfield on Monday and Thursday at 10am. This programme is suitable for men wishing to start exercising or physical activity and will continue for eight weeks in January.  Anyone interested can now attend a session for more information. 

Askamore Indoor Christmas Market

The Askamore Indoor Christmas Market is on Sunday December 4th 2022. Doors will be open for traders to set up their stalls and tables from 2.30pm until 3.30pm, then all cars must be parked in the Chapel carpark as the Community Centre will be “pedestrian only” after 3.30pm. The market runs from 4pm until 8pm. The Tractor run is at 5.30pm. The Christmas lights go on a 6pm. Santa will be there and his Elves will be handing out Selection boxes. Face painting in The Coffee Dock. Christmas trees for sale. Hot chocolate and treats. The Macra will have their Hang Tough Bar for a bit of fun. Honor Heffernan and her wonderful choir will sing all your favourite Christmas carols. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Garda Station in Askamore Hall on the last Wednesday of every month.

Starting Wednesday November 30th 2022 @ 11am – 12noon. This is a very important service provided by our Community Gardai, please support.

Carnew Community Care – Charity Shop 

Carnew Community Care and our volunteers are delighted to finally reopen the Charity Shop at the Day Centre after COVID.   The Shop will reopen on Wednesday the 23rd and Thursday the 24thof November from 11am until 3pm.    The Charity Shop will remain open every week on Tues, Wed and Thurs from 11am until 3pm.  

Donations are being accepted during the shop opening times.  We regret that we cannot take electrical goods, books, toys  and some baby equipment items.  Please call in advance of dropping in with donations – 053 94 26510.   We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the Charity Shop at the Day Centre where the volunteers have made a great job of displaying all the bargains to be had.  

Crafting at Carnew Community Care 

Crafting Afternoons are continuing on Tuesdays at Carnew Community Care from now until Christmas from 2pm to 4pm.    We have had a taste of paper crafting and cross stitch in the last two weeks.   Those attending loved both crafts and have decided that from next Tues the 22nduntil Christmas that they will try Paper Crafting, kindly being led by Betty Commiskey.  Some may even try their hand at making some Christmas cards.  

All are welcome to attend,  we request a donation of €3 towards costs.

Seminars at Askamore Community Hall

Askamore Community Council with the support of Wexford IFA & Wicklow IFA are hosting a series of Seminars on four consecutive Tuesday evenings from Nov 22nd 2022 until Dec 13th 2022 starting @ 7.30pm until 9.30pm in Askamore Community Centre. The cost is e10 per night or e25 for the four nights. Proceeds to the upkeep of the Hall. Refreshments will be served each night, good conversation and company is guaranteed.

Askamore Singers started up before Covid and are delighted to be returning on 3rd of November to
the community centre in Askamore.
Time 7:30 to 9.
Coach Honor Heffernan
Fee €50 per 4-week term.

Our aim is to visit nursing homes and day care centres and entertain with some great songs, starting with Christmas songs and also singing for the turning on of the Christmas lights in Askamore.

This is a great way to improve your voice and gain skills and confidence and perform for people who will really love it. Everybody Welcome, whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned professional, this is suitable for men & women of all

Tinahely Craft Market

Tinahely Craft market is getting ready for the Christmas season. From the 1st of December we will be open every day from 10-5 so you can do your Christmas shopping close to home.  There is a fabulous variety of locally handmade crafts. Come along to our mulled wine evening on the 1st of December from 4-6. Opening hours for this weeks market are Fri & Sat from 10-4.
