Cllr Stephen Stokes has welcomed the announcement of €4 million funding to assist off peak entertainment in our towns and cities.

Cllr Stokes stated: “A total of 433 organisations from across Ireland, have been offered funding from the Night-Time Economy Support Scheme. with 17 of those venues being in County Wicklow. This will provide a welcome boost to both entertainers and venues across County Wicklow.”

The scheme is hoped to encourage applicants to try out new forms of live entertainment at their venues on midweek nights and to reinvigorate the midweek arts scene.

Applications were received from a wide range of venues including; arts centres, cafés, galleries, museums, nightclubs, pubs, hotels, retail outlets, and theatres. Thousands of performance employment days have been generated with well in excess of 2000 events, in every county, across the country. Some of the types of events include comedy, dance, live music, photographic exhibitions and more.

Cllr Stephen Stokes concluded: “This funding will help to generate positive momentum in the events industry, especially in these challenging times.”
