Laragh Glendalough notes week November 7th

Laragh Glendalough Tidy Towns

SuperValue Tidy Towns Result for 2022

Thank you all who contributed to our Tidy Towns entry for 2022 because of your efforts we gained an extra 9 points this year with areas to improve on for 2023, in particular, categories such as Community-Your Planning and Involvement, Sustainability and Approach Roads, Streets and Lanes.

Here are the concluding comments from the judicators:

Well done to you all in Laragh on building on its natural resources with the addition of more recreational walks, greater focus on biodiversity with native tree planting, plans for river monitoring & a move to pollinator friendly planting. The outcome of your Masterplan coupled with the council’s settlement & tourism plan will provide you with a framework for the future & no shortage of projects. Thank you for a well drawn map, an essential guide in making an adjudicator’s visit a breeze. It was a pleasure to visit Laragh & with all the additional trails the next visit will not be far away. The very best of luck with all your endeavours.

Pure Mile Awards Night

You may all know about The Pure Mile by now. It is growing every year with great work being done by Ian and his team along with the many volunteers around Wicklow who keep their mile litter free and looking great.

Last week a large group of us were invited to Brooklodge Hotel for the Pure Mile Gala Evening Awards. Minister Harris and representatives from Wicklow County Council and other districts came along to celebrate the achievements of all the volunteers and this worthy organisation.

Regular Village Clean Ups

During the winter months volunteers are meeting on the first Sat morning in front of Lynhams at 10am for the area’s clean up tasks. We would be delighted to see more volunteers when you are free to help just come along.

Laragh Christmas Tree Lights Parade

We are delighted to say that we will be starting to get our Christmas Lights ready over the next few weeks. We are going to turn the lights on Saturday 26th November. We plan to hold a Santa parade again due to the success last year however we have told Santa he needs to slow down this year.

With this in mind we would like to invite members of our community to light up trucks, tractors etc., and be part of the parade. We do ask that children are not in vehicles in the parade as we want them to enjoy it from the village. We will have a small prize for the best lit vehicle on the night.

If you have any questions in relation to the parade please contact Brian Windsor or Collette Connolly.

We would also like to thank everyone for the support to our table quiz and we will be setting up a go fund page if anybody is in a position to donate that was unable to attend the table quiz. Unfortunately this year we have already seen a significant increase in costs so all donations are greatly appreciated.

We look forward to updating you with further information in the coming weeks.
