Oscar nominated Pugh stars in this drama from acclaimed director Sebastián Lelio. Set in The Irish Midlands in 1862, the story follows a young girl who stops eating but remains miraculously alive and well. English nurse Lib Wright (Florence Pugh) is brought to a tiny village to observe eleven-year old Anna. Tourists and pilgrims mass to witness the girl who is said to have survived without food for months. The part of Anna is played by none other than Kila Lord Cassidy, daughter of Award winning Wicklow actress, Elaine Cassidy who also plays her on screen mother Rosaleen O’Donnell in the drama.
The story is based on Irish woman Emma Donoghue’s novel of the same name. Donoghue is no stranger to adaptation of her books to screenplay. The film adaptation of her novel Room, directed by Lenny Abrahamson, was nominated for 107 awards overall.
Elaine Cassidy, a native of Kilcoole, Co.Wicklow spent her childhood years in the village and was educated locally at Loreto Convent, Bray. She now lives in London with her husband and two children. Elaine played her first part when she was just 5 years old and took part in the school production of ‘Pinocchio’. She first came to the publics attention following her Win at the Geneva Film Festival in 1996 for ‘Most Promising Actress’ for her role as Shelley in The Sun, The Moon & The Stars. Since then she has gone on to win numerous awards including an IFTA for her role of ‘Runt’ in Disco Pigs.
