Young Barndarrig man Liam Scales has been named in the Irish squad to play in Ireland’s friendly against Norway on Thursday 17th November @ Aviva stadium.
Having originally played for Arklow Town before moving to UCD in 2015, Scales has continued to develop himself both as a player and an academic. 2018 was a golden year for him which saw him winning the First Division with UCD, earning his degree in Geography and Irish (He is also a Gaeilgeoir) and reach the FAI Cup semi-final. Putting in the hours and giving it his all, the 24 year old defender has gone from strength to strength. 100 senior appearances across League and Cup competitive matches for his Club showing consistency and dedication have ultimately paid off for Scales as he recently found himself being signed from Shamrock Rovers to his childhood heroes and Scottish stalwarts, Celtic.
Regarded as one of the best defensive players to come through League of Ireland teams in recent years, Scales made his league debut in December 2021 when he came on as a substitute and scored a 3rd goal for Celtic in their 3-0 away win against Dundee United. The Celtic player is currently on loan to Aberdeen.
Undoubtedly Erling Haaland will be drawing the crowds, the punditry and the paparazzi on match day but all our eyes will be firmly with our National team and young Liam as he gives his all for his country.
