100 lights candle light walk will take place on Sunday 8th January 2023 at 4pm till 6.30pm at Baravore car park
Glenmalure Pure Mile is proud to host a special candlelight walk to commemorate a part of local, 19th century, mining history.
Folklore tells us that on Christmas morning the mining families living in Baravore would walk to Mass to the churches in Grennane and Ballinatone and that as they crossed the ford over the Avonbeg at Baravore you could trace one hundred lights as they moved their way down the valley.
This 3 km looped walk, follows the mining trail and starts at Baravore car park.
There will be stories and poetry along the way and the event will finish up at the Glenmalure Lodge where there will be light refreshments served with entertainment provided by local musicians.
This event is open to everyone of all ages, but participants are advised to dress warmly and to bring a torch for extra light and safety.
The walk includes some rough ground and uphill sections which are not accessible to buggies or wheelchairs but those not wishing to walk are welcome to gather at Baravore for the duration of the walk.
