Arklow Municipal District hosted a very successful Parade Ground launch event on Sunday 11th December, despite the wintry weather conditions.
There was a great turnout at the launch festivities which kicked off with a performance by the Arklow Shipping Silver Band followed by Master of Ceremonies for the day South East Radio’s DJ, Phil Cawley. The jam-packed fun-filled day went down a treat for all generations of the family with many braving the elements throughout the afternoon.
Entertainment included a kid’s art workshop, the Arklow Pipe Band, Inbhear Mór Performance Ensemble, Arklow Baton Twirlers, Christmas decoration making with The Colour Club and a host of street theatre performers including magicians, jugglers, fire eaters, balloon entertainer and laser light jugglers. The event brought colour, magic, music & positivity to the town.
Many attendees braved the elements and waited for special guest Santa Claus himself to arrive, who didn’t disappoint with a sack full of presents for all the children.
Cathaoirleach of Arklow Municipal District, Cllr Pat Kennedy, thanked all involved who made this event happen including representatives from Arklow and District Chamber of Commerce, Arklow Traders, Arklow Town Team, Arklow Christmas Festival Committee and Arklow Municipal District.
The aim of the event was to showcase the newly refurbished Parade ground and the town, to increase footfall for the traders and to encourage people to support local businesses.
Arklow Municipal District would like to extend a thank you to the traders who opened up on the day.
