The Wicklow Mountain Rescue teams are appealing to members of the public to keep away from upland areas around the Sally Gap.

Gardai closed the road due to the icy conditions on Monday evening, however the warnings are falling on deaf ears with some members of the public.

The Low Temperature and Ice Warnings are to remain in place until the weekend.

Over the last few days Dublin / Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue were tasked by An Garda Síochána to assist a number of stranded motorists who attempted to drive in around the areas of Lough Tay and Sally gap.

Mountain Rescue was there to assist in case any members of the public required medical interventions. Thankful there were no injuries. The majority of the cars were removed by tow truck as Mountain Rescue does not provide this service.

If you find yourself in difficulty dial 999/112 and then Mountain Rescue will be tasked if we are required. Unless you absolutely have to make a journey across the mountains, ask yourself is there an alternative route, is your vehicle equipped to make the journey, have you a plan if you get stranded.
