Status Orange Low Temperature and Ice Warning issued by MET Eireann

A Status Orange Low Temperature and Ice Warning has been issued by MET Eireann for both today Sunday December 11 and Monday December 12.

The Warnings are valid from 5pm on Sunday until midday on Monday.

A Status Yellow – Low Temperature/Ice warning remains in place for the entire country until noon on Friday December 16.

The cold snap has seen temperatures fall as low as -8 in the west of the country.

Gardai and the RSA are urging motorists to drive with caution.

Don’t forget your pets and feathered friends put out water and seed.


TODAY – Sunday 11th December

Very cold this morning with a widespread severe frost, ice on roads and paths as well as patches of freezing fog, lingering in places through the day. Most areas will be dry with winter sunshine, though wintry showers will also occur – mainly in northern and eastern counties. Temperatures only reaching 0 to +4 degrees in light, occasionally moderate, northerly or variable breezes.


Bitterly cold tonight with temperatures falling to between -7 to -4 degrees widely, dipping lower locally. Dry for most though wintry showers will occur, especially in the northwest with accumulations of snow possible. Freezing fog will also develop widely in a light variable breeze, falling near calm at times.
