Status Yellow Fog and Ice Warning in place

A Status Yellow Fog and Ice Warning are in place for the entire country.

The Yellow Warnings remain in place until until noon on Saturday.

Temperatures are expected to drop mas low as -4 overnight.

Garda and the RSA are urging motorists to use caution especially on minor roads where there has been no thaw throughout the day.

A number of incidents were reported this morning.

Motorists are also being asked to make sure they can see through all windows of their vehicle and keep them clear of ice.


TODAY – Friday 9th December

Remaining very chilly this evening. Dry for many areas, although there will be some showers of rain, sleet or hail, mainly affecting coastal counties. An occasional flurry of snow is also possible, mainly over high ground. Patches of fog or freezing fog will gradually become more widespread. Light breezes, westerly or variable.


A widespread sharp frost will set in tonight along with icy stretches. While many areas will remain dry, some wintry showers will continue, mainly along Atlantic coastal counties. Fog or freezing fog will also develop in many areas. Lowest temperatures of -4 to -1 degrees in light westerly or variable breezes.

TOMORROW – Saturday 10th December

Generally dry with low winter sunshine, and isolated wintry showers. Frost and ice lingering in sheltered areas, along with some patches of freezing fog. Highest temperatures of only 0 to +4 degrees, in light northwesterly breezes.
