Thieves ruin festive celebrations

While the community of Rathdrum were enjoying the festive celebrations and the arrival of Santa on Saturday evening more sinister works were going on behind the scenes.

A generator which was hired by the festival committee was stolen while the celebrations took place.

Committee member Shamie O’Toole said “We are both stunned and sickened by this awful act, we are hoping the members of the public my have seen something, and local Gardaí are checking CCTV from the area, this was a big generator so it would have taken a few people to lift. We put out a appeal on Social Media which reads as follows”

“We closed out the Festival to a fabulous fireworks display last night but behind the scenes we were dealing with some unpleasant news that has put such a dampener on all the hard work and goodwill that we put into this weekend.

A generator (Pictured below) that we had hired for the weekend has been stolen.

We are absolutely shocked and devastated that some people( and it was people because this was a heavy machine to lift off a trailer) used this family event as an opportunity to do this. While we were working to ensure this event was a lovely community day/evening, making memories for children & their families, some people had very different ideas.

We appeal to the people who did this, there is still time to put this right, please do the right thing and return it.

If you have any information please come forward, the local Gardai will treat any information with complete confidentiality. Or you can contact any of us privately.

If you were around and noticed anything strange or suspicious at the lane between St Saviours National school & Parnell Memorial park during Sat/Sun please tell the local Gardai or us, the smallest thing could help us find who was involved.

As a voluntary committee, this really could jeopardise our ability to put on another Christmas festival.

We are working through the details with the Gardai & the Hire company and will comment further if & when appropriate.

Please share this post, please talk about this, please ask questions, it might just make the difference between this generator being returned and the festival going ahead next year.

We want to thank the Community of Rathdrum for all the fantastic support they have shown us.”

Thank you

Seamie, Daphne, Olivia, Karen, & Pat
