Wicklow LGFA today mourn the sad passing of John Bermingham (Coolkenno LGFC), following a short illness.

John contributed hugely as a volunteer with Wicklow LGFA over the decades. Only 3 months ago he officiated as our referee in the Wicklow County Senior Club Final in Baltinglass while also officiating at the Leinster LGFA Senior Club final in 2021. John’s contribution included coaching at club level with his club Coolkenno, coaching County Juvenile Teams, refereeing at club level within the County and at Provincial level in Leinster.

John will be missed by all throughout the Wicklow LGFA Community and beyond and also by his refereeing colleagues in Wicklow and beyond not only for his officiating and volunteering but also as a friendly face at games and for the craic and banter while in his company.

Wicklow LGFA would like to convey their condolences to his wife Joan, children Lorcan, Amey, Shauna, Rachel and Shane, his mother Elizabeth, mother-in-law Bridie, brothers P.J. Nicolas, Joe, Luke, Jimmy and Kevin, sisters Liz, Cushy and Mary, his in laws, nieces, nephews, extended family, and his wide circle of friends and neighbours.

The Ladies Gaelic Football Association posted

Leinster LGFA extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of popular Leinster referee, John Bermingham, who passed away this morning after a short illness.

John was an experienced referee that had officiated at all levels within Leinster for at least eight years, a highlight being taking charge of the 2021 enthralling Leinster SFC Club final between Dunboyne and Foxrock Cabinteely.

John was just as happy refereeing among the younger grades and his encouraging and kind nature was obvious and helpful to younger players.

John also worked as a volunteer and coach within his club and county, and his good nature will be missed on many a sideline in 2023.
