Wicklow have a second shot at Irelands fittest family title

RTE have just announced the line up for the Fittest Family Celebrity Christmas special and we are delighted to see that Wicklow is well represented. Following our close second in the Ireland’s Fittest Family Final last month which saw Wicklows’ Fitzsimons family pipped to the post by the mighty Nugents of Louth, a second shot at claiming the title is most welcome.

Amongst the contenders taking part in the Christmas special, you can find find Tadgh Fleming, Blathnaid Treacy, Glenda Gilson and Emma Doran. Funny (as in haha), doesn’t even cover it!

Each of the Celebrity teams is aiming to win the €10,000 top prize for their chosen charity with the runners up each receiving €1,000 for the charity of their choice.

Tadgh Fleming and his tribe will be competing for a donation to Let’s get Talking, Glenda Gilson and her team for Childline. Blathnaid Treacey is hoping to bring back the goods for St. Patrick’s Mental Health Services and Emma Doran and crew are putting everything into a win in aid of CanTeen.

So which one of the celeb crew are we pinning our Wicklow hopes on? Kilcoole brothers Jake Mooney and Charlie Moon, make up half of Blathnaid Treacey’s team with Blathnaid’s brother Naoise completing the fab four. Anna Geary will be coaching team Treacey through the event and we can imagine she will have a taste for success as she also coached the Fitzsimons family to their second place success.

The event which partly takes place on the Hell and Back Course at Kilruddery, is no walk in the park and contestants are thrown up against a gruelling course in the final stages. Once off the start line, the families must take on a forest sprint before conquering a 200 metre log run. Next up is the obstacle course before they face off against the notorious Fittest Family Ramp.

There’s only one way to find out whether Blathnaid and the boys will be triumphant, tune into RTE One, Wednesday 28th December @ 6.30pm.
