Council Purchases Land in Glenmalure for Additional Car Parking

Wicklow County Council have purchased land in Glenmalure to extend the current car park at Baravore to accommodate the large visitor numbers attracted to the area.

Making the announcement, Cllr. Pat Kennedy said “I am delighted to be able to announce that Wicklow County Council have purchased land in Glenmalure to extend the existing car park. Glenmalure is a hugely popular area for walkers and tourists with very poor car parking facilities and that has caused many issues over the past number of years. The addition of an extra acre of land is to be very welcomed and will be of huge benefit once fully developed.”

There have been a number of issues in recent years caused by the lack of car parking facilities including the impeding of emergency services when responding to emergency incidents on mountains and bush fires. Local residents have also found access to their homes and lands blocked.

Cllr. Kennedy went on to say that he wanted to thank the Gardai, Coillte, the Glenmalure Pure Mile, Wicklow County Council, and the local community for working closely with him to achieve this. He especially wanted to thank the local farmer and his family for making this land available.
