Wicklow man Shane Byrne, former Irish International Rugby Player and winner of 40 caps, is the sixth celebrity announced to take part in series six of Dancing with the Stars!
The show which airs on screens this Sunday features 11 celebrities paired with professional dancers. The pairs compete to win judges high scores and keep their place in the show for one more week.
When asked his thoughts on joining the dancing with the stars line up, Shane said “I’m really looking forward to hitting the dance floor on Dancing with the Stars in January! It’s not like anything I’ve ever done before – it’s a long way from the rugby pitch – but I’ll give it my all and I know I’ll have a lot of fun along the way.”
Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services, Wicklow Hospice who Shane is an ambassador for, also took to Social Media to wish him well. “Good luck to Wicklow Hospice Ambassador and former rugby player Shane Byrne who hits the TV dancefloor next week for RTÉ Dancing with the Stars. Our team will be cheering you on!”
There have been a number of other changes made to the upcoming series with the ‘season’ being reduced from 12 to 11 weeks. Sources have cited tightening budgets as the reason behind the production being reduced. RTE have not officially commented on the future of the show but rumours are however rife that Shinawil, the production company behind dancing with the stars have only contracted for one more season, that being season 6.
Regular viewers will welcome a new host this season following Nicky Byrnes shock departure last August. Jennifer Zamparelli will be a familiar face whilst Doireann Garrihy will join Jennifer in presenting the show. Arthur Gourounlian, Brian Redmond and Lorraine Barry all return to the judging panel for the second year in a row.
Joining Shane on the dancefloor for the 6th series of dancing with the stars are:
Derry Girls’ Leah O’Rourke, Former State Pathologist Marie Cassidy, Irish International Footballer Stephanie Roche, Comedian Carl Mullan, Actor Damian McGinty, Comedian Kevin McGahern, Make Up Mogul Suzanne Jackson, Drag Artist Rory O’Neill aka Panti Bliss, Eurovision Hopeful Brooke Scullion, Dublin GAA star Paul Brogan
You can catch dancing with the stars, Sunday 8th January on RTE 1 @ 6.30pm
