Walks to celebrate St Brigid

Two guided walks will take place in Wicklow town to celebrate St.Brigid.

The walks to Brides Head Wicklow will visit the most easterly holy well in Ireland called Brides Well.

The walk will include the pre-Christian and Christian traditions and rituals of St Brigid’s Day (Imbolc) and the return of Spring.

It will also cover the local Wicklow traditions and folklore of the well. The sailors would bring water from the well to their boats for safety at sea and many other stories.

The new bank holiday this year for St Brigid’s Day celebrates both the Goddess Brigid traditions and the St. Brigid traditions.
The holy well at Brides Head was featured in a Nationwide Programme about Holy Wells in 2022.

The walks will be held on Wednesday Feb 1st and Saturday Feb 4th, will visit the well and allow people to experience the stories and folklore for themselves.
