Wicklow crew set new Atlantic World Record

5 Wicklow men have set a new world record for the fastest ever Atlantic row by a 5 person team.

Derek McMullen, Diarmuid O’ Briain and Gearoid O’ Briain from Rathdrum. Tom Nolan, Tinahely and Arklow man Shane Culleton set out from LaGomera in the Canary Islands over a month ago and have now reach Nelson Harbour in Antigua in the Caribbean in a time of 33 days, 12 hours, and 39 minutes.

The team arrived this morning to wild excitement on the quayside as they held aloft the tricolour to cheering crowds.

They are fundraising for the Laura Lynn foundation, the R,N.L.I and the Rathdrum cancer support group
