Wicklow Hospice Half Marathon and 10km race returns to Avondale

Wicklow Hospice is delighted to host its ninth annual Half Marathon and 10km race on Saturday 25th February 2023.  This event returns to Avondale Forest Park and is the first half marathon taking place in county Wicklow this year.

Speaking about the event, Emily Barton, Senior Fundraising Manager, said, “We are asking people to put on their runners and take on the half marathon or 10km on this beautiful, looped course along wooded trails and country roads.  We’re delighted to return to Avondale Forest Park for the race, which has always been well supported by our community.  We hope to see old friends back and welcome new faces to jog or run the course.

“We encourage participants to set €100 sponsorship target, the money raised by participants provides crucial funding for Wicklow Hospice.  The fundraising team can help with sponsorship cards, setting up an online fundraising page and other advice. If you can’t take part, perhaps you could sponsor a friend or help us spread the word about this event?  Money raised will fund outstanding bank loan of €840,000, on-going enhancements to the Hospice and the purchasing of specialised equipment,” she said.

Wicklow Hospice ambassador and Olympian Fionnuala McCormack will be there on the day with words of encouragement for runners, she said “I’d encourage starters and serious runners to take part in this race to support a great cause.  It’s an enjoyable route taking in forest tracks and quiet roads and I hope to see many of you on the day.”

The entry fee is €35 for the half marathon and €20 for the 10km race.  Entry is open to individuals and club members of all ages. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and are not permitted to enter the half marathon. Thanks to generous support and sponsorship from Coillte there will be prize vouchers for Avondale Sports, Rathdrum for the top three men and women finishers and medals for all participants.
