Social Democrats TD for Wicklow-Jennifer Whitmore, welcomed members of the Wicklow Town Youthreach programme along with their three adult leaders to Leinster House last Thursday February 16th.
The group enjoyed a tour of Leinster House which included a visit to the Dáil Chamber and the Seanád by the ushers. Deputy Whitmore then met them on the steps of Leinster House for a chat about the issues that her young constituents want their TDs and Senators to be talking about. Senator Eileen Flynn also joined the group to say hello and talk about her experience as a Senator.
Deputy Whitmore said “it was fantastic to meet this group of young people from Wicklow Youthreach at Leinster House and to have the opportunity to hear what the important issues are for them and what they think politics and Politicians should be doing for them.”
“Politics needs to be for everyone and it’s something that everyone, young and old, should feel that they can engage with. A lot of people only see Leinster House and TDs or Senators on their television or on the news, it is a real pleasure to be able to welcome so many groups and schools to Leinster House and give them the opportunity to interact with politics in real life. If any other Wicklow youth groups or schools are interested in visiting Leinster House for a tour and a question-and-answer session, I’d be more than happy to facilitate them,” concludes Whitmore.
