The fire at Wexford General Hospital which started late this afternoon has been brought under control by the fire services who continue to work at the scene.
9 units of the Fire Brigade are currently attending the scene of an extensive fire at Wexford General hospital.
Healthcare services in the vicinity have rallied to send ambulances to evacuate patients. Although initially reported to be a full evacuation, the total numbers evacuated are just short of 100 with one of the evacuated areas being the Intensive care unit.
The crisis management team of the HSE have been activated and are currently sourcing alternative hospital accommodation for the evacuated patients.
Parts of the roof have now fallen and the Fire Service are using a cherry picker onsite to try and dampen the flames.
Gardai have advised onlookers not to gather and to avoid the area completely to allow for smooth movement of emergency vehicles.
