A spate of Rathnew robberies leaves residents concerned

Local man Jason O’Toole of Rathnew woke to find his work van had been the subject of unscrupulous thieves overnight.

Last Tuesday night, 18th April, as you can see from the video footage, saw 3 people approach Mr. O’Tooles work van which was parked outside his home in the Hazelbrook area of Rathnew. Brazenly, 2 of the criminals walked straight toward the van and helped themselves to a Stihl lawnmower valued at 900. As they deposited it into the back of their vehicle, a third person joined them to give the van a final look over with the aid of a torch.

Anyone who has suffered the loss of tools which enable them to earn their livelihood will appreciate how frustrating this can be, not to mention damaging to a business. If you were in the area and witnessed a similar vehicle behaving suspiciously, please contact Wicklow Garda station on 0404 60140.

According to victim of the crime, Mr. O’Toole, there were a further 4 vehicles in the Rathnew area tampered with on the same night. Gardai are investigating.
