Arklow RNLI launched on 15.04.23 at approximately 2.10pm to a request to assist a yacht which had lost propulsion and was adrift with 2 persons aboard just off the beach near the Arklow Bay Hotel.
The volunteer crew made their way to the lifeboat station and and within minutes of the request were aboard RNLB Ger Tigchlearr and enroute to the reported location just outside Arklow harbour mouth
Once afloat the lifeboat travelled the half mile to the casualty very quickly.
In worsening conditions the vessel had lost propulsion and tried to anchor and was drifting on to a lee shore approximately 50yards from Arklow North Beach .
Once the tow was established, the casualty was able to haul up its anchor to allow for the tow back in to Arklow.

Arklow RNLI’s crew on this callout were Aidan Downey, Eddie McElheron, Craig O’Reilly, John Tyrrell, Josh McAnaspie, Aaron Quigley & Cillian Kavanagh.
Following the callout , Mark Corcoran, Volunteer Lifeboat Press Officer at Arklow RNLI said:
“Our teams dedication and training for these scenarios really paid off this afternoon, thankfully the casualty had done all the right things which allowed us to get there and be able to assist” and “We’re very proud to say that this callout was also one of the youngest fully trained lifeboat crews ever to go to sea from Arklow and was also Cillian Kavanaghs first official callout”
