Bumper Week for Blessington Schools

BCC Parents and Principal w Jennfier Whitmore

Wicklow TD Jennifer Whitmore has welcomed the news last week that will see improvements for 2 of the towns Schools:

  • Blessington Community College has been approved for a 1000 student school
  • Blessington Educate Together National School received approval for a new classroom for September 2023

Following the announcements today the local Social Democrats TD said:

“It was good news all round for Blessington schools today! She announced last Friday.

“I was delighted to hear that Blessington Community College has formally been approved for a 1,000 student new school. I have been working with the parents, teachers and school staff towards this over the last few months and it is fantastic to see all of their hard work and determination bare fruit.

“I will continue to work with the community here to ensure the prompt delivery of the urgently needed temporary classrooms for this September’s intake of First Year students and ultimately the delivery of a permanent 1,000 student school for Blessington.

“It is equally good news  that Blessington Educate Together National School received approval for the arrival of their fourth mainstream classroom for this September. BETNS is the only Educate Together School in West Wicklow and has been steadily growing over the last few years. The approval of a fourth mainstream classroom for the school is fantastic news for this school community and I am delighted to have supported them.

“I had the opportunity to meet the 5th and 6th class students from BETNS when they came to visit me in Leinster House earlier in the year. It really struck me how engaged and socially conscious this group of young people are and I am delighted that more children will have the opportunity to attend this school now.” Deputy Whitmore went on to say

Blessington Educate Together Chamber

“I have been working with the parents, teachers and school staff in both schools over the last few months and their determination and commitment to ensuring that these schools get the facilities they need has to be commended. Blessington is a growing community and needs its schools to grow with it.”

“There are still other schools across Wicklow which are waiting to hear from the Department about their own building projects including Wicklow Town Educate Together Secondary School and North Wicklow Educate Together Secondary School. I will continue to work with the parents, teachers & school staff here to ensure that these permanent school buildings are delivered promptly.”
