A gallant Wicklow senior side lost out to Sligo on Saturday in the AFL Division 4 final.
Wicklow were promoted last weekend following a win in Waterford and were hoping to finish off the league campaign with a win over the table toppers.
All looked like it was going to plan as Wicklow went into the break with a two point lead, it could have been a five point after Kevin Quinn’s effort came back off the post.
Shortly after the restart Sligo went in front for the first time in the game with a goal from Paul Kilcoyne, despite the best efforts from the Wicklow team they went down by two points. Final score Sligo 2-10 Wicklow 0-14.
They will now dust themselves down for next Sunday when they will take on Carlow in the first round of the Leinster championship in Aughrim.
