Quest Glendalough makes a welcome return to Wicklow

Over 1,700 adventurer racers converged in Wicklow on Saturday 1st April to run, cycle and kayak their way around Wicklow National Park for Quest Glendalough, the second race of the year in the 2023 Quest Adventure Series.

No April Fool’s! this challenging adventure race, requires participants to complete a choice of routes by running, cycling and kayaking across up to 60km of the spectacular mountains, valleys and lakes of Wicklow. A great opportunity to get outdoors during a perfect time of year for kayakers to take to the Upper Lake in Glendalough. This sell-out event offers participants a choice of three routes: the 59km Expert Route, 43km Sport Route and 21k Challenge Route.

Winners of the Expert route were Sebastien Giraud and Laura O’Driscoll. Winners of the Sport route were David Hickey and Rhianna Hennegan. Winners of the Challenge route were David Kelly and Eleanor Gallagher (see notes for full times and results).

Race Organiser Oliver Kirwan said, “We hold a special affection for Glendalough, which is rubber-stamped every time we come here. Regular and new participants alike love this event, and we are delighted that it continues to sell-out. We are very grateful for the great support locally, and would like thank all our volunteers and marshals, and especially Laragh GAA pitch for letting us set up camp on their doorstep. What’s very special for us is the opportunity to help even more people discover this wonderful, historic, unspoilt area.”

Despite wet weather in the days leading up to the event, the rain held off and a great atmosphere welcomed participants home as they crossed the finish line, as well as hot food, fabulous music and a resounding cheer from supporters.

Quest Adventure Series will hold two more Quest adventure races this year in Lough Derg on 9th September 2023 and Killarney on 7th October 2023.

Quest Glendalough and Elite Event Management are grateful for the support for this event from main Quest Adventure Series sponsor Volvo Ireland Cars, official snack partner All Real, and event partners Nuasan, Gnarly Peaks, and Cono Sur Bicicleta.
