Spring Clean Success for Dr. Ryan Park

Dr Ryan Park Volunteers

A clean up of the Dr. Ryan Park took place on Saturday, April 15th. The event was organised by Cllr Stephen Stokes. It formed part of the National Spring Clean, which is being organised nationally by An Taisce. An estimated 150kg of waste was removed from the Dr. Ryan Park in Greystones.

Cllr Stokes praised all of those who took part. He stated: “We had a brilliant turn out. It was a great team effort. People came from all over including Kindlestown Park, Churchlands, Kenmare Heights, Eastmount, Bellevue Heights, Charlesland and more. There was a great community spirit. Hopefully we can build on this momentum for future clean ups.”

The volunteers removed a wide range of materials including carpets, bottles, a metal sign and more. The success of the day was boosted by logistical support from An Taisce and the Greystones Municipal District Office. Cllr Stephen Stokes added: “Both An Taisce and the Greystones District Office provided vital equipment. The Council also agreed to take the waste, which was a big help. Our sincere thanks to them for their important work.”

Last year, 5,640 groups registered to carry out clean ups across Ireland. Volunteers who participated in the Spring Clean 2022 collected an estimated 2,600 tonnes of litter. It is hoped to have future clean ups of the Dr. Ryan Park. Anyone interested in taking part can contact Cllr Stephen Stokes on stephenstokes101@gmail.com for additional information.
