Tidy Towns
Annacurra Development/ Tidy Towns
Our third Tidy Towns application went in a couple of weeks ago, judging starts 1st June and runs to the end of July. We are slowly getting through all the projects and jobs we planned to do, it will take years for us to be serious contenders for medals and awards but we’ve made great progress since starting.
A big thank you to our local volunteers and tradespeople for the huge effort which has been put into Annacurra cross roads over the past few months. It’s great to see everything coming together after many years of consultation with Wicklow County Council.
A few years ago the council put kerbing down, last Autumn we had our bus shelter installed. We have worked with the council who agreed to let us landscape the rest of crossroads and put a pathway down. We received a Trees grant which helped fund the 420 beech hedging sown this Spring, we had our pathway dug out, timbers are in and it will be poured with concrete this week. Our new village sign which was given to us by Wicklow County Council came out of storage and was put up last Friday.
We’d like to thank Hugh Doyle from the council and his crew for their help, to Pat Kennedy and Wicklow County Council, and to all our local volunteers who are doing such a great job. We are very lucky to have the calibre of helpers in Annacurra, to Tony Doyle and Tom Doyle who are doing a brilliant job at the path, thanks to Barry Moules & David O Connor digging it out, and our great committee.
We’ve been busy with other jobs too, planting 14 Firethorn bushes at the entrance to Hazel Hill which once established will give great colour, our planters around the village have a fresh coat of paint as have the lovely wrought iron gates at the bridge along with all the general maintenance work.
We have a very active WhatsApp group with over 50 members where everything from work meetups to watering duties are organised amongst the general chat. If you’d like to become involved please get in touch with any of the committee, our facebook “Annacurra Tidy Towns, instagram or WhatsApp 087 9039537.

After a number of years absence, Declan Flanagan (Dancing with Declan) will be at the Festival and Field Day. His dancing was enormously popular the last time he was here before the Pandemic. We’re delighted that he is able to return this year.
Regarding the Townland Tug-of-War, we’re hoping that this will become an annual event for a trophy and bragging rights,
We are also going to run a Dog Show, which we hope will be popular with everyone.
These are three attractions that we hope will grow in the next few years, so your attendance is so important. We’ll have more details about these three attractions in due course and we’re not finished yet.
